Dream Big, but Think Small

''Dream Big, but Think Small.'' I wish I could remember where I heard that phrase, but I am sure it is buried somewhere in one of the hundreds of psychology books I have read over the years. It is only fitting to remind myself of this phrase as I launch Peak Mental Performance Coaching, LLC. I first had this dream 20 years ago while college when I accidently stumbled onto a Sport Psychology class in college while trying to figure out what I wanted to major in. The irony is I was not able to take that class since I had not taken intro psychology. That did not matter, the dream had been launched, and every choice I made from there took me one step closer to today and the launch of Peak Mental Performance.

Although the dream was launched in college, my years of playing sports set the foundation. I still have videos at age 2 playing baseball in my yard with dad. Memories of winning teams, losing teams, hard work, building relationships with family, friends, and coaches. Every experience was the building of a foundation, even a knee injury that ended my love for baseball, shook my confidence in myself, but opened the door to the world of tennis.

I will not bore you with the details of my history in the sports and educational world, but I eventually did take that sport psychology class in graduate school. From there I have been working in the field for over a decade. Each experience, each client, each colleague, has made me into who I am and how I believe anyone can learn the skills to manage adversity and grow their confidence.

I want to emphasize that it is important to come up with that dream, set you goals, but stay in the present. Think about the steps you can do today that help you grow, and bring you closer to the dream. Do not skip steps, recognize it takes time, hard work, set backs, and growth as a person.

Here I am 20 years later, launching my dream of Peak Mental Performance Coaching, LLC. My new goal is to share the lessons and skills I have learned with a new group of clients, so they too can learn to ''Dream Big, but Think Small''.
